Golfing

After learning the sad news yesterday that having a friend at Blackstone doesn't actually equate to knowing someone who can make marketing decisions for la quinta, I decided to have a "strategy session" on the golf course with Meg and Jess (look at those swings!).

We came up with a lot.
1 birdie (Jess)
1 sunburn (me)
6 lost balls
3 goslings
and at least 2.5 great businesses to start in SF (one of whic
h is an investment management company slash daycare for anxious dogs)

But zero brilliant lq marketing ideas.
Better luck tomorrow.

Sidetracked

Not much progress so far on talking to La Quinta, because we've been a little distracted. We were at a wedding last night (Table 13!) and had stuff to do. But! we also are staying at a Holiday Inn! Apparently in Saratoga Springs they allow dogs. So it turns out this trip is totally relevant, because we can compare it to La Quinta.

Holiday Inn Pros:
- Really nice pillows of various softness
- A pool

Holiday Inn Cons:
- No free breakfast at all!
- Roughly double the rate

I can't comment on LQ pillows because I don't remember them from my last visit. And I'm not sure whether they've got pools. Also something to check on. Right now I'm pretty hungry thought, so I think LQ wins.

Double Rainbow!

The day after the idea, there was a double rainbow over New Haven. Second one's kind of hard to see. But it's definitely auspicious.

The Idea

How many times have you been out at the bar and had a fantastic idea, one you’re sure is brilliant, only to wake up the next morning, remember it (maybe), and realize that it is clearly sort of mediocre and/or hugely flawed in some way. This is NOT one of those ideas. Actually, it may be kind of flawed but its DEFinitely not mediocre. I should also point out right now that its not actually my idea. It was Christina’s idea (Hi Stina! She's on the left). I’m pretty sure that makes it better.

Here it is. Pete and I (and our dog, Roxy. There she is, digging.) are driving cross country in 2 weeks. We are leaving our totally lovely (but apparently totally unsaleable – unsaleable isn’t a word. Huh.) condo in New Haven, CT, and driving out to San Francisco. To live. For the foreseeable future. We are doing the drive in 6 days and 5 nights and we’re planning on staying in La Quinta every night along the way. Because La Quinta is great! Its reasonably priced, clean, you can bring your dog, and there’s free breakfast. Raisin Bran, especially. And they are everywhere along route 80. So no matter where you want to stop, you’re pretty much all set.

So here’s the idea. For real this time. Get La Quinta to sponsor our trip xcountry. And in return we will live-blog our adventure, promise to make it totally fun, name our blog after them, and generally spread the word about La Quinta’s awesomeness. Good idea, right?

We have until June 11th to make it happen. Only issue is, we’re not entirely sure how to get La Quinta on board.

Pete and the Rox sleep on it.
