The Idea

How many times have you been out at the bar and had a fantastic idea, one you’re sure is brilliant, only to wake up the next morning, remember it (maybe), and realize that it is clearly sort of mediocre and/or hugely flawed in some way. This is NOT one of those ideas. Actually, it may be kind of flawed but its DEFinitely not mediocre. I should also point out right now that its not actually my idea. It was Christina’s idea (Hi Stina! She's on the left). I’m pretty sure that makes it better.

Here it is. Pete and I (and our dog, Roxy. There she is, digging.) are driving cross country in 2 weeks. We are leaving our totally lovely (but apparently totally unsaleable – unsaleable isn’t a word. Huh.) condo in New Haven, CT, and driving out to San Francisco. To live. For the foreseeable future. We are doing the drive in 6 days and 5 nights and we’re planning on staying in La Quinta every night along the way. Because La Quinta is great! Its reasonably priced, clean, you can bring your dog, and there’s free breakfast. Raisin Bran, especially. And they are everywhere along route 80. So no matter where you want to stop, you’re pretty much all set.

So here’s the idea. For real this time. Get La Quinta to sponsor our trip xcountry. And in return we will live-blog our adventure, promise to make it totally fun, name our blog after them, and generally spread the word about La Quinta’s awesomeness. Good idea, right?

We have until June 11th to make it happen. Only issue is, we’re not entirely sure how to get La Quinta on board.

Pete and the Rox sleep on it.

  2. I did not know you could bring your dog until I read this blog...now I will stay at La Quinta because its a pain to bring dogs to hotels. They should def sponsor your trip!

  3. When I drove cross-country (or, as you folk say it, across country), I had NO idea La Quinta allowed pooches. If so, I totally would have done it La Quinta-styles. Whoops, that sounds dirty.

  4. Maybe Roxie could be the LaQuinta spokesdog?

Kind of like the Taco Bell chihuahua?

    Good Luck!

  6. We are also LQ fans and want to add that they all have free wireless internet in addition to all the other good features you have mentioned. Hope LQ continues to grow so there will be more of them to stay in. Also hope that you hear from LQ about this cross country trip!

  7. This is a great idea! I've always tried to sneak my dog into hotels, but it's much more relaxing when they're actually welcomed!

  8. We stayed at the Moab, Utah LQ last month, and while it did not seem inexpensive, it was certainly well run and comfortable. Didn't know they took dogs. Big plus

  9. Great idea! As a kid we stayed at a LaQuinta on a road trip from NY to Florida. My sister's and I made up a song to tune of La Cucaracha. Something like: la la laquinta, la la laquinta, la la la la la la la la...ok..well I was six.. :)

  10. I'm not surprised Ken has a long history with La Quinta. His father is obsessed with free hotel breakfasts, which lucky for me got passed down to my one and only. It's like he's been given a free BMW or something everytime we hit that buffet - he gets so excited. I always have leverage to talk him into a bed and breakfast however...

  11. One of the photos of the dog suggests that it is as large as a small pony. Not certain La Quinta will be receptive.
